This 2-sided factsheet is part of the What You Say Matters More Than You Think stigma education toolkit from the UW Addictions, Drug & Alcohol Institute. This campaign, developed by ADAI Information Team summer intern Karen Da Silva, encourages everyone, from providers to the public, to consider how the words we choose can reduce stigma, promote understanding, and support compassionate care.
The factsheet, intended for healthcare providers and staff (though also relevant for a general audience), explains why words matter, what the research says about stigma and care, and includes a printable “say this, not that” guide.
