Every September, SAMHSA sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders, and celebrate people in recovery.

This year's theme, "Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community," explores how integrated care, a strong community, sense of purpose, and leadership contributes to effective treatments that sustain the recovery of persons with mental and substance use disorders. The observance will work to highlight inspiring stories to help people from all walks of life find the path to hope, health, and wellness.

• The science and advocacy behind changing the language in our field has influenced leading healthcare associations, most government agencies, and the AP Stylebook. Now, it’s getting attention from the big book of words itself. In a 90-second video, Dictionary.com addresses the question, “What’s Wrong with the Word Addict?”


• A new Pew Research Center survey shows Americans overwhelmingly view drug addiction as a problem in their local communities. That’s true whether they live in urban, suburban, or rural areas.
