Talk About Drugged Driving During National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week

Drugged driving is on the rise. Almost a million more Americans drove under the influence of illicit drugs in 2017 compared with 2016. According to new data from the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, more than 21 million people aged 16 or older drove under the influence of alcohol in the past year and close to 13 million drove under the influence of illicit drugs.

NIDA has created a drugged driving toolkit with information and resources to help educate your school, group, or community with the facts about this important topic during NDAFW 2019 and beyond. In the toolkit, you will find activity ideas and other resources to get your wheels turning about how to best reach teens and young adults with this important information.

Mind Matters Series

After 20 years, NIDA is transitioning away from our beloved Sara Bellum character in the Mind Over Matters series to a format that is more relatable to today’s youth audience. The series will now be called Mind Matters, and will focus on easy-to-understand scientific facts.

The Mind Over Matter series is a valued resource for tens of thousands of teachers. Each booklet is devoted to a specific drug or drug group. The booklets, available in English and Spanish, can be ordered for free (see below). The accompanying Online-Only Teacher’s Guide includes background information, lesson plans, and activities to enhance students’ learning.
